Advanced A -Wing
The Advanced A-Wing was designed as a "Maximum-Performance Fighter" to counter advanced Imperial fighters such as the TIE-Avenger, TIE-Defender and the Missileboat. The new A-Wing variant is powered by a pair of Novaldex J-99 Event Horizon II engines, which are developments of the J-77s that power the standard A-Wing. The J-99s have much more advanced thrust vector nozzles and are a good 50% more powerful while being more fuel efficient. The armament of the Advanced-A-Wing has been upgraded with more powerful laser-cannons and the addition of 2 ion-cannons mounted ventrally. The two 6-round missile launchers remain unchanged. The Advanced A-Wing is the "hottest" New Republic fighter in terms of sheer performance and is much faster than the TIE-Defender and just as maneuverable, with much more refined handling.
