The Martian War Machine

An ancient and dying race; the Martians made a desperate bid to take over their fertile and abundant planetary neighbour - the planet Earth. For the Martians there was no turning back, no return to their spent and arrid planet. They traversed the interplanet distance in giant cylinders, crashing into the Terran landscape. Each cylinder housed three of these ground-effect killing machines, each armed with a devastating heat ray in the flexible dorsal "head" and a disintegrator beam weapon in each wingtip. They strode over the Terran planet on three anti-gravity beams laying waste to everything in their path without mercy.

The human defenders with their primitive technology were no match for the Martian war machines, unable to defend themselves against the Martian weapons and unable to penetrate their protective force fields. All seemed lost for the Human defenders, extinction seemed inevitable. But the Martian invaders fell prey to simple Earth born viruses and bacteria. Pysically weak without their mighty war machines, the Martians were defeated by the tiniest, most invisible of enemies.
