Stingray, Violator and Cobra-class Starfighters

Stingray

The Stingray is one of the oldest, most widely-used and popular general-purpose fighter in the known galaxy. It is remarkably easy to fly, and its ruggedness, reliability and ease-of-maintenance is legendary. It has been said that if you are deaf, dumb, blind and crippled but still want to be a starfighter pilot, then the Stingray is the ship for you! The private Sierran company that designed it has long since faded into history, but its remarkable product lives on in an endless array of variants. The Stingray is very simple and conservative, powered by four sublight ion engines and a standard civilian warp-generator, it uses old-fashioned thruster-clusters for maneuvering. Despite its lack of the gravimetric devices found in modern fighters it offers respectable agility and performance, especially in atmosphere. But most operators have upgraded their Stingrays with a pair of wing-mounted gravimetric generators to augment its performance. The standard armament consist of paired light plasma-lasers on the wingtips, paired medium plasma-lasers in the nose, and two 4-round warhead launchers. The Stingray's solid, if unspectacular, attributes assures it will serve with many mid to low-budget operators for many decades to come

Violator

The Violator is a well-armored assault fighter that is not very common due to its unusually high price tag. For well-to-do pirate gangs, however, it is an attractive buy, offering solid performance with good armament. The Violator is armed with four particle lasers and two tandem belly bays for heavy rocket bombs. The stub wings are also hardpoints for additional weaponry. It's performance is substantially below that of the Sierran Rapier.

Cobra

Another commonly used fighter is the Cobra, a small, low-cost, single-engined, light-fighter. It is armed with two light particle-lasers and a single 2-round warhead launcher. The tail section can be equipped with either a low-output warp-generator OR a small shield generator...but not both. Its very limited capabilities means that it must be used in large numbers to be effective.
