T-47 Airspeeder
The Rebels used a militarized version of the ubiquitous T-47 Airspeeder as an inexpensive close-air support craft in the dark, desperate early years of the Rebellion. They were a vast improvement over the earlier, make-shift Y-speeders that the Rebels originally used for close-support duties. T-47s served the Rebel forces on every planet on which they fought, but the little craft will be forever remembered as the "Snowspeeder" for their valiant efforts to slow the Imperial AT-AT attack on Hoth, buying the Rebel transports and surviving starfighters the desperately needed time to escape. The T-47 has become less important as the Y-Wing has assumed the primary surface attack role with the New Republic, and as other newer, more capable dedicated attack craft have entered service. It still serves in various versions in the close-support and utility role in remote bases. T-47s can also be found in countless customized versions across the galaxy with all forms of operators.
