TIE-Fighter & TIE-Interceptor

The unceasing and ever present symbols of the Empire. The ubiquitous TIE-Fighter and TIE-Interceptor are simple fighters with no shields, life-support systems or hyperdrives. They are extremely small and light with amazing speed and agility. They must rely on these qualities as well as overwhelming numbers to be successful. These ships and their fanatical pilots are considered by the Empire to be disposable weapons. Few TIE pilots ever survive long enough to become great pilots.

The standard TIE-Fighter is armed with 2 laser cannons with a very high recycle rate to inflict maximum damage to its target in a minimum amount of time. The TIE-Interceptor has four such weapons, which when combined with its speed and agility, makes the fighter a formidable attacker. Some TIE-Interceptors have been equipped with shield generators, as Imperial commanders realize that they can no longer afford to throw away these valuable assets. The shield generators, however, means less power is available for the fighter's engines and guns. There's simply no room in these tiny ships for more power converters.

TIEs are unusual in that they have no internal landing gear, again designed as such to save weight. They are able to land softly on their solar arrays, but are usually suspended on special racks in the hangers of starships and facilities.
