Colonial Viper Mk.7 Interceptor
The Colonial Viper Mk.7 was the most advanced version of the light attack interceptor series at the time of the Second Cylon War. It was substantially lighter and slimmer than the previous Vipers. The Mk.7 was equipped with the best state-of-the-art engines and avionics, and was armed with three laser projectile cannons. Unfortunately, it was the advanced computer suite that was to be compromised by Cylon agents who managed to hack the new systems and rendering them useless and helpless to the Cylon surprise attack. A great number of Mk.7s and their pilots were lost, sitting helpless in the cockpits of their doomed fighters. The defense of the human survivors fell to the few Mk.2s that were still airworthy. Eventually, the surviving Mk.7s would have their systems reconfigured to withstand Cylon jamming, and have been gradully replacing the old Mk.2s as the dominant fighter in the surviving Colonial fleet.
