Z-95 Headhunter Mk.2

The most common starfighter in the galaxy, the old Z-95 Headhunter is the forerunner of the X-Wing and comes in countless customized variants. The Mk.II was designed to replace the Headhunter Mk.1, with the purpose of simplifying the ship for easy customization and making it extremely cheap and sellable to practically anyone. The Mk.II has simple fixed, straight wings, replacing the more complex swing-wings of the Mk.1. Two wingtip-mounted laser cannons replaced the six shorter-ranged blasters of the Mk.1, and hyper drive is now a standard fit, as opposed to being a retrofit on the Mk.1.

The Mk.II has four easily interchangeable fusion engines, as well as a larger power generator housing aft of the canopy. The Mk.II has a deeper lower fuselage that extends farther back under the wings, housing now the main landing gear, which previously resided in the wing-glove of the Mk.1. The basic Mk.II is much heavier than the Mk.1 variants, and is far less nimble. Many skilled pilots have preferred to stick with the sprightly Mk.1. The Mk.II is more assessable to the average pilot, however, and has appeared in countless customized variants, almost too many to count or catalogue. Many Z-95s still serve with the New Republic in remote sectors and for training.
