Mara Jade's Z-95 Mk.1

The original Mk.1 version of the ubiquitous Z-95 Headhunter remains one of the most nimble starfighters ever to see service. Most have been supplanted by the more familiar and heavier Mk.2 version with 4 fusion engines and fixed, straight wings. The twin-engined Mk.1, however, had variable-geometry swing-wings with large ailerons which gave it superb agility in atmosphere. The Mk.1 was armed with 6 blaster-cannons, which had a shorter range than the dual standard laser cannons that would equip the Mk.2. The blasters gave a much greater punch in close, but needed a superior pilot to take advantage of their qualities. It has proved difficult to adapt the Mk.1 to use standard lasers due to the space constraints of the Mk.1's internal gun bays. Compared to the 4-engined Mk.2, most Mk.1s have 2 engines and a smaller power-generator housing aft of the canopy. The Mk.1 has a much smaller profile than the Mk.2. While the Mk.1 is not as fast as more modern starfighters it is fondly remembered by older pilots for its exhilarating handling and agility.

Jedi-Master Mara Jade-Skywalker has retained this Z-95 Mk.1 for her personal use. The starfighter, like her larger ships such as the "Jade's Fire" and the "Jade Saber", has been consistently upgraded over the years, and in her Force-guided hands is a very potent weapon. Mara's Z-95 has powerful, advanced ion engines with magnetic thrust-vectoring. Advanced avionics and sensors have also been fitted.

Mara Jade formates with the X-Wing flown by her Jedi Padawan, Jaina Solo.
